Trust Life a Bit and Don’t Give Up on Finding Love After 50

-

There is a powerful quote by Maya Angelou that says “To those who have given up on love, I say trust life a little bit.”  In the past, when I have shared this quote with the women in our community, I have been met with sad, almost cynical responses. Women ask, “Who is going to fall in love with me, a 60-year-old woman?” or “How can I trust another man after what has happened to me?”

Don’t Give Up on Love After 50

We are so self-critical sometimes. We have a tendency to let our disappointments overwhelm us and shatter our self-confidence. Over the years, we lose our belief in the power of love.

Today, I read that singer Susan Boyle has a boyfriend for the first time – at the age of 53. I am thrilled for her! This is a woman who has known rejection, self-doubt and insecurity. Of course, she has also known success, but, her personality shines much brighter than her name in lights.

There will be women who will say “Of course she was able to find a man, now that she is rich and famous. They were probably looking for a nurse with a purse anyway!” To this, I have two responses. First, get out there and start living your passions. You don’t have to be a star to shine brightly. Second, ask yourself what is the greater risk – being rejected or giving up on love? Dating after 50 is tough. But, it is also possible to find someone perfect for you at any age.

To those who have given up on love, I say trust life a little bit. I couldn’t agree more.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Please answer the following questions in the comments below.

Do you believe that it is possible to find love after 50? What do you think is the greater risk – being rejected or giving up on love? Do you think that there are good men over 50 out there that are still interested in dating women their own age? What do you think of Maya Angelou’s quote?
